Control panels in flood-prone regions face an inherent structural challenge: standard enclosures are designed to remain stationary. When rising floodwaters reach the internal components, replacement often requires installing new panels on elevated platforms that add cost and limit routine access.
The Control Assembly Mitigation Option, CAMO®, by COX Research removes that vulnerability. The CAMO® system is control panel hardware with a means and method of quick and easy removal of the entire interior of a control panel.
Before a storm or flood disaster, a technician uses our patented design with spring hinges to detach the swing door, disconnect the pull apart terminals, and unscrew wingnuts to pull out the backplate in less than 1 minute.
The exterior enclosure, outfitted with vent and fill drains for the quick recession of water, stays in place while the most valuable interior components like SCADA systems, battery backups, and data radios, are stored safely indoors until the storm passes. After floodwaters recede, reassembly follows the same sequence and the system resumes normal operation.
Field Application: St. Bernard Parish
COX Research installed CAMO systems on pump station controls in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, a region among the hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. The design's dual operating mode, normal and emergency, combined with the pressure-equalizing drain and vent system, matched the parish's flood conditions.
